Grid-tie solar systems are being installed all over the country. Since ICE pilot grid-tie program took effect in 2013, ICE customers are now compensated for the energy they generate in excess of use; however, other, private energy firms have not fallen into line yet despite ICE’s call for conformity in this respect. This means that this is not an economically viable option for CNFL, Coopeguanacaste, and Coopesantos customers yet; however, for ICE customers, the Return on Investment (ROI) of a home solar system is about 7 years (depending on the size and complexity of the system). Financing is available for all kinds of grid-tie solar systems. We recommend this option for all home-owning ICE customers.
