The battery bank is a core and critical component of every alternative energy system.  While proper sizing goes a long way toward ensuring good results, the quality of the equipment used is similarly important factor.  Osa Power predominantly recommends Rolls Surrette batteries for local installations unless an overriding factor suggests the use of the less costly Trojan battery line or specialty two volt Mastervolt or other specialty brands..

Rolls-Surrette batteries are available in 2-, 4-, 6-, and 12-volt units and with a wide range of amp-hour capacities.

To correctly size battery capacity for an alternative energy system identify the load that must be independently sustained and the time period in which the battery bank is required to sustain that demand.  Apply a factor of 90% inversion efficiency and a practical battery drawdown maximum of 60%, and configure the system through wiring in series and parallel to deliver the voltage required by the inverter. 

While battery manufacturers may recommend three days of backup capacity, six hours is more typical at a residential scale in paradise.
